CPR
1
- Definition:
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. (CPR) is an emergency medical procedure for a victim of cardiac arrest or, in some circumstances, respiratory arrest. For the past 50 years, CPR has consisted of chest compressions and ventilation, but as of March 2008, the American Heart Association and European Resuscitation Council have backed the effectiveness of chest compressions alone--without artificial respiration--for adults who collapse in cardiac arrest.
- Usage:
- The staff performed CPR for over thirty minutes, but unfortunately we were unsuccessful.

Other things I've heard CPR called: winding the clock and robbing the grave.

I was just PALS certified yesterday, and they still had us doing breaths with chest compressions. It appears that there is some disconnect between American Heart Association and many teaching hospitals.

This girl in my PALS class though she could shock an asystolic patient. And guess what, she was still certified! What do you have to do to fail, stab the anthropomorphic dummy?
