Definition:
The idea that patients presented on nights and weekends will not be given the optimum standard of care and can result in an overall increased mortality rate. In recent studies, trauma patients appear less affected than those suffering from cardiac and neurological emergencies.

Researchers believe Level 1 Trauma Centers are best able to care for patients when the facility focuses on organization and uniform staffing and resources around the clock.
