- Definition:
- Outdated, old-style method of hair transplantation, commonly performed using a 4mm punch biopsy tool, leaving unsightly rows of tufts of hair. Compared with single-follicle and follicular-unit grafting today, old punch grafts contained up to 40 follicles each!
- Usage:
- Did ya see Biden's hair plugs? They were almost as bad as Nick Cage's!
half with
- Definition:
- "Half with" when used in the operating room can mean 0.5% Bupivacaine (a local anesthetic) with epinephrine. It is commonly injected to surgical wound sites to reduce pain for up to 20 hours after the surgery.
- Usage:
- Surgical Tech to Circulator: Jill, before you run out of the room, can I get a half with?
hardware
- Definition:
- A term to describe surgical implants used in orthopedics, spinal, and dental casees. It can include anything from a stainless steel screw, to intermedullary rods, pins, titanium plates, or joint replacements.
- Usage:
- If it is causes us any problems later on we may have to do a hardware removal.
Hasselhoff
- Definition:
- A term for any patient who shows up in the emergency room with an injury for which there is a bizarre explanation. The term is based upon the leaked video tape of a hapless David Hasselhof crawling around on the floor, drunk, with a cheeseburger in hand.
- Usage:
- He pulled a Hasselhoff.
Health 2.0
- Definition:
- "Health 2.0 is participatory healthcare. Enabled by information, software, and community that we collect or create, we the patients can be effective partners in our own healthcare, and we the people can participate in reshaping the health system itself."
